Payment SCAM Alert
Payment Scam Alert
- Some companies are contacting students, offering discounts on tuition.
- They ask for your student ID to make a payment through PayMyTuition (PMT).
- After you see the payment on your Okanagan College (OC) account, they ask for a reduced payment.
- The card owner disputes the charge, and PMT reverses the payment, putting your ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃaccount in bad standing.
- This could put a HOLD on your account, block access to services, and even delay graduation or cause you to be dropped from classes.
Important Notes:
- Payments should never be made by unrelated third parties.
- Don’t share your student ID with outside parties.
- If you’re unsure about an offer, contact the International Education Department for help.
- Be cautious of offers to make payments on your behalf or promises of discounts. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Sponsorship and RESPs
Sponsorship:
- If you’re sponsored (e.g., by an employer, Band, or government), your sponsor must send a form or letter to Okanagan College so we can bill them.
- You can use our fillable Sponsorship Form, which includes sponsor and student responsibilities.
- If your sponsor prefers a letter, it should include:
- Your full name and student number
- Types of charges your sponsor will pay (e.g., tuition, fees, books)
- Maximum amount your sponsor will pay
- Sponsor contact info and authorization to bill
- The sponsor should also send you a copy of the letter.
- You’re responsible for providing additional info (e.g., grades or transcripts) to your sponsor if needed.
- You can use the "Consent to Release Information" form to let your sponsor access info directly from OC.
Send all sponsorship letters to AccountsReceivable@okanagan.bc.ca before the payment deadline.
For questions, contact Accounts Receivable at AccountsReceivable@okanagan.bc.ca or call 250-762-5445.
RESPs:
- If you want to use your RESP to pay for tuition, contact your financial institution for required documents (like Proof of Enrolment).
- For Proof of Enrolment letters, submit your request to:
- Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 4X8
- Fax: 250-862-5466
- Email: registration@okanagan.bc.ca
- Include your name, student number, program, and any instructions for the completed letter/forms (e.g., mail, fax, or hold for pick-up).
- Allow 7-10 business days for processing.
Refund
For academic and vocational programs:
Refunds will not be issued for amounts less than $10.
Credit or refunds are issued to the student regardless of the payee.
You are entitled to a full credit less the non-refundable, non-transferable deposit(s), up to and including the last day of course registration. If you are registered for the next term, this credit will be applied to the following term. You will not receive a refund. Students who are in their last term of study will receive a refund. Students who withdraw after the last day of course registration will receive no tuition credit or refund.
More information on refunds can be found in the calendar.
Okanagan College has partnered with PayMyTuition, an electronic payment tool, to remit domestic and international refunds to students via Interac e-transfer and international wire transfer. This refund method will replace refund cheques.

For Distance Education courses, re-registration after the deadline requires tutor approval. Contact Distance Education at: distanceed@okanagan.bc.ca.
Okanagan College will be contacted by the relevant province to confirm your enrolment. If you're in the correct program and course load, and your enrolment is confirmed, a hold will be placed on your account. You'll receive an email notifying you of the hold.
For B.C. student loans, enrolment is generally confirmed 26 days before classes start. Once the hold is applied, you won’t be dropped from your courses.
To check the status of your account, log in to your myOkanagan account, go to the Student tab, select "Student Records" under Online Services, and choose "View Holds." If your enrolment is confirmed, you'll see a "Student Loan Approved" hold with the approved dates.
You must pay your fees in full within five (5) business days of receiving your student loan funds. Failure to pay on time will result in removal from your courses and waitlists.
If no hold is placed on your account, you are responsible for paying your fees by the payment deadline.
